Eagles Soar: Benedictine Dominates Concordia 38–7 in Statement Win
by: Nathan Dunaj
The Eagles put on a show this weekend, dominating all three phases of the game in a statement win over Concordia.
Benedictine wasted no time setting the tone, opening the game with a 30-yard touchdown pass to strike first. Concordia answered after converting a 4th-and-8, but the Eagles immediately swung the momentum back with a 70-yard kick return that set up a field goal. From there, Benedictine’s offense caught fire, adding another 10-yard touchdown through the air to take a 17–7 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter was all Eagles. On the very first play, the defense came up huge with a pick-six, and just a few minutes later, #27 Santino Florio electrified the crowd with a 65-yard punt return touchdown, blowing the game wide open. Benedictine kept the pressure on both sides of the ball, shutting down Concordia’s offense and heading into halftime up 31–7.
The third quarter turned into a defensive battle, with both teams trading punts and neither side finding the end zone. But in the fourth, Benedictine put the finishing touch on their dominant performance. After a long, clock-chewing drive, the Eagles punched in a 10-yard rushing touchdown to make it 38–7, before closing things out in victory formation.
Player of the Game: #27 Santino Florio, who changed the game with huge plays on special teams, including that electric punt return touchdown and the 70-yard kick return that set up early points.
The Eagles move to 7–2, showing why they’re one of the most complete squads in the conference: explosive offense, lockdown defense, and elite special teams.
